From Village to City – Create Your Own Comic about the Founding of Jyväskylä
- Aika 20.03.2026
- 22.03.2026
11.00 AM – 6.00 PM
To celebrate Jyväskylä’s birthday, you can create your own comic about the founding of the city at the self-guided workshop in the Activity Corner Nappula. What would your version of the city’s colourful early days look like?
Do you know why the city of Jyväskylä was originally founded and who its first residents were? And how were an enterprising farmer from Saarijärvi and a major from Laukaa, distinguished in the Finnish War, connected to the story? And why on earth did the whole process take more than ten years?
You can explore the fascinating early stages of Jyväskylä’s history in the exhibition In Search of Central Finnish Identity, including through Ina Majaniemi’s inventive comic. To celebrate Jyväskylä’s birthday, you can now create your own comic about the founding of the city at the self-guided workshop in the Nappula activity space. What would your version of the city’s colourful beginnings look like?
The self-guided workshop, designed for all ages, will be open in the Nappula activity space (2nd floor) of the Keski-Suomen Museum from Fri–Sun 20–22 March during the opening hours of the Aalto2 Museum Centre, 11 am–6 pm.
On Friday and Saturday, the workshop is included in the admission fee to the Aalto2 Museum Centre. On Sunday 22 March, Jyväskylä’s birthday, admission to the entire museum centre is free!
