Children’s City – Self Guided Workshop

11.00 AM – 6.00 PM

Delicious colours, round windows, slanted roofs and decorative outdoor lights— what might a children’s city in the middle of hills look like?

The City of Jyväskylä turns 189 years old on Sunday, March 22, 2026. To celebrate this occasion, entry to the Aalto2 Museum Centre is free.

In the workshop space Corner of the Alvar Aalto Museum, you can independently take part in creating a collaborative artwork called Children’s City. The workshop space provides easy instructions, tools and materials to help you get started. So go ahead and design and compose your own house to add to the ready-made landscape. Which colours go well together, and what kind of playful details will flow from your pencil?

When your house is ready, attach it to the hilltop city and take a picture of the whole creation!

So come along—and bring a friend—to build a children’s city together!
