Home for the light – lantern workshop
1 PM – 3 PM
Kulma Workshop Space (1st floor)
Come and build your own lantern to light up the dark winter nights and bring some Christmas spirit into your home. The light from a Japanese-style lantern filters gently through thin paper. By experimenting with different structures, you can create lanterns in various shapes, and by playing with different materials, you can create different reflections and patterns. If you have your own LED candle, you can bring it to the workshop. The workshop is suitable for all ages. You can take your lantern to the museum center’s singing event and contribute to the festive atmosphere of Christmas!
The workshop is included in the museum center admission fee and is part of the Aalto2 museum center Christmas event.
Find the Light guided tour (in Finnish)
1 PM – 2 PM
Exploring Central Finland exhibition
Guided by the light of a Christmas lantern, the tour takes you on an imaginative journey to the history of light in Central Finland and Jyväskylä. Candles and different kinds of lanterns have illuminated the everyday lives and celebrations of people in Central Finland for a couple of hundred years until the present day. The guided tour will explore, among other things, what it was like to walk along the streets of old-time Jyväskylä with only a handheld lantern to illuminate your path? When, where, and why were shingles burned? And what exciting happened when women arrived at the Christmas church too early? The tour will also talk about teachers’ roles as enlighteners.
The guided tour is included in the museum center admission fee and is part of the Aalto2 museum center Christmas event.
Christmas Card workshop (non-stop)
1 PM – 3 PM
Activity Corner Nappula (2nd Floor)
Brighten your loved one’s and your day by making a collage Christmas card using illustrations from old Christmas cards or by drawing. The nonstop workshop is suitable for all ages.
The workshop is included in the museum center admission fee and is part of the Aalto2 museum center Christmas event.
Sing-Along: The Most Beautiful Christmas Carols of Central Finland – Laura Kaartinen
3 PM – 4 PM
Aalto2 connecting section (1st Floor)
Get into the Christmas spirit under the guidance of Jyväskylä Parish’s music educator, Laura Kaartinen. Together we’ll sing some of Central Finland’s most beloved and well-known Christmas carols – everyone is welcome to join, regardless of singing experience. The community sing-along is organised in collaboration with Jyväskylä Parish, and through it we also wish to share the joy of Christmas with others. Through parish diaconal work, we are donating free museum passes to low-income families in Jyväskylä. Come and sing along!
Participation in the Christmas carols has been organised in cooperation with the Parish of Jyväskylä, and the event is open and free for everyone.
Welcome!
