Christmas at Aalto2

Welcome to a festive Christmas-themed day at the Aalto2 Museum Centre! Enjoy seasonal treats at Aalto2 Café, create a traditional Finnish Christmas decoration “Himmeli” or candy-themed “Himmeli” in the Kulma workshop, decorate your dream gingerbread cookie, and immerse yourself in an afternoon of holiday cheer with beautiful Christmas music from the vocal ensembles Flok x Kuohu. During the day, you can also join a raffle, visit a self-guided crafting workshop at the Central Finland Museum’s Nappula Room, explore Christmases of the past, and find holiday gifts at Aalto2 Shop.

Craft a Candy “himmeli” – a festive workshop for the whole family

1 PM – 3 PM 

Location: Kulma workshop space (1 st. floor)

Take a break from the holiday hustle!

This hands-on workshop invites participants of all ages to explore the classic himmeli form in two creative ways: by crafting one with decorative paper straws or a playful version with delicious licorice and wooden sticks. Dive into the design and structure, creating at your own pace anytime during the session.

Included with Aalto2 Museum Centre’s admission, this workshop is part of Aalto2’s festive holiday event.

Decorate Your Dream Gingerbread Workshop for Kids

1 PM – 3 PM 

Nonstop workshop 

Location: Aalto2 Lounge (1st. floor).

Come decorate your dream gingerbread! Choose from a variety of colorful icings, candies, and sprinkles to create your own delicious design. Enjoy your gingerbread creation on-site or take it home to share. Decorated gingerbread also makes a sweet holiday gift!

Workshop material fee: €3, includes two gingerbread cookies.

To reserve your spot and ensure enough supplies, you can pre-register by emailing cafe@aalto2.museum, though walk-ins are welcome.

Note: Gingerbread cookies are lactose-free but contain wheat. No special diet alternatives are available.

Flok X Kuohu Christmas Concert

3 PM – 5 PM 

Location: Aalto2 Connecting section (1st. floor).

FLOK
Flok is a Finnish a cappella group made up of music professionals, bringing a fresh perspective to the genre in Finland by creating original pop music. Last year, Flok won the amplified category at the international Tampere Vocal Music Festival. The group’s TikTok videos have amassed over a million views, successfully reaching a younger audience. All of Flok’s arrangements are original, and the concert will also feature their new Christmas single, released in November!

KUOHU
Kuohu is a six-member a cappella group from Tampere. The name “Kuohu = surge”, meaning both water’s turbulence and human emotions, reflects the group’s dynamic and expressive sound. Kuohu’s members are like waves or strong feelings that rise and fall but never lose their strength. Kuohu’s aim is to stay on the crest of new and classic works, bringing music that moves people through a deeply emotional performance.

Come immerse yourself in the atmosphere of traditional Christmas celebrations. This slideshow, produced by the Museum of Central Finland, will also be available for viewing throughout the week leading up to Christmas on December 22nd.

Self-Guided Christmas Craft Workshop

Nonstop workshop 

Location: Nappula, Museum of Central Finland (2nd. floor)

In the festive Nappula’s self-guided workshop, suitable for all ages, you can create a fun little elf or a recycled-themed ornament from old book pages. Additionally, Nappula offers fun Christmas-themed activities.
