Aino Kajaniemi’s Lecture on the Church Textiles of Taulumäki Church

1 PM – 2.30 PM

At the event day of the Elsi and Tove’s Journey exhibition, we will hear a lecture by textile artist Aino Kajaniemi on the creation of church textiles for Taulumäki Church, followed by a discussion inspired by the lecture about the significance of Taulumäki Church and its surroundings.

1 PM Aino Kajaniemi’s Lecture: “Love Graffiti, Wordless Communication”

Textile artist Aino Kajaniemi will talk about the design and creation of liturgical textiles for Taulumäki Church. In 1998, all the church textiles, or paraments, at Taulumäki were renewed, and Kajaniemi designed complete sets for all six liturgical colors, including the rare blue. Kajaniemi has also designed new church textiles for Vaajakoski and Tikkakoski churches. Vaajakoski and Tikkakoski were the core areas of the rural parish of Jyväskylä, with Taulumäki serving as the main church. For textile artist Kajaniemi, Taulumäki Church and its surroundings hold special personal significance. In 2009, a large Jyväskylä parish was formed, and the rural parish ceased to exist.

After the lecture, the discussion will continue, allowing participants to share their personal connections to Taulumäki Church and its surroundings.

The lecture is included with Aalto2 Museum Centre admission fee.
